DR MCKEE AND THE SWEET VOICES SILENT NOW

It’s the end of another academic year and, as we do every end of term assembly, we all rise for the school song. As I have every year, I leave the assembly for the summer thinking that the chorus would make an awesome punk rock singalong. Only that summer I have some spare time on my hands, and an idea: a charity single to raise money for Cancer Research UK and kick off a new year of fundraising activities at the school. The song raised about £100 for the charity - but also made me realise making any kind of music from music in this day and age is an impossible proposition - better for people to donate directly. Still, I remain proud of bringing the school song kicking and screaming into the 21st Century, even if it is by way of a subcultural phenomenon of the twentieth.
